Temporary email for verification codes and confirmation links

Many sites ask you to confirm an email address before you can use them. If you only need to get past that step once, a temporary email address keeps your real inbox out of it. Open the page, copy the address, and the message shows up on the same screen.

When a temporary email works for verification

A verification email usually contains one of two things: a short numeric code or a link you click. Both arrive within a few moments of pressing the send button on the sign-up form. A temporary inbox receives that email the same way a normal inbox does, so the process looks the same from the website's side.

It works best when you want a quick look at a service, a free trial, a download that asks for an email, or a forum account you will not use again. In those cases the address only has to survive for a few minutes.

  • Trying a new app or tool before deciding whether to use your real email
  • Downloading a file or guide that wants an email before it lets you in
  • Signing up for a newsletter or coupon you only want once
  • Testing a sign-up form you are building, to check that the confirmation email arrives
  • Keeping a marketplace or forum account separate from your main inbox

How the SMS OTPS temp mail inbox behaves

When you open the temp mail page, an address is generated for you. You do not create an account and you do not enter any personal details. New messages are checked automatically every 20 seconds, so you do not have to refresh the page.

If a message contains a verification code, the page highlights it so you can copy it with one click. The address stays active for 24 hours, after which it is deleted along with its messages. If you press New Address, you get a fresh one, and the old one is no longer available in your session.

When it will not work

Temporary email is not a fit for every site. Some services block known disposable domains and will tell you that your address is not accepted. Others only verify by text message, and no email address can receive that.

It is also a poor choice for anything you need to get back into. Password resets, receipts and security alerts go to the address you signed up with. If that address disappears after a day, so does your way back into the account. Use your real email for accounts that matter.

If the site wants a phone number instead

Plenty of sign-up flows skip email and ask for a mobile number. For those, SMS OTPS lets you rent a temporary number for a single verification. You pick the service and country, see the price before you buy, and the text message appears in your dashboard. If you cancel before a code arrives, or the number times out without a message, the amount goes back to your balance. The refund policy page has the full rules.

The two tools do different jobs. Use the email inbox for email confirmations and a rented number for SMS codes.

How to verify with a temporary email in four steps

  1. 1

    Open the temp mail page

Your address is generated automatically. Copy it with the copy button.

  2. 2

Paste it into the sign-up form

Submit the form and keep the temp mail tab open.

  3. 3

    Wait for the message

The inbox checks every 20 seconds. Open the message to see the code or the confirmation link.

  4. 4

    Finish and move on

Complete the verification. The address expires after 24 hours, so do not rely on it for later logins.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a temporary email to get a verification code?

Yes, for most sign-ups. Open the temp mail page, copy the address, paste it into the sign-up form and wait for the message. The inbox checks for new mail every 20 seconds and highlights the code so you can copy it.

Do I need an account to use it?

No. The address is created when you open the page. There is no sign-up, no password and no payment.

How long does the address stay active?

The address stays active for 24 hours, then the address and its messages are deleted. That is long enough for a confirmation link or a code, but too short for an account you plan to keep.

Why did the site say my email is not allowed?

Some sites keep lists of disposable email domains and reject them. If that happens, the email route will not work on that site. A temporary phone number is the other option, as long as the site accepts SMS verification.

Is a temporary email safe for my main accounts?

No. If you lose the address you lose password resets and security alerts. Use your real email for banking, work and anything you need to recover later.

Does it work for SMS codes?

No. Email and SMS are separate. For a code sent by text message you need a phone number, which you can rent from SMS OTPS for a single verification.
